About Me
I’m JaTara. I like connecting technology, people, and information. I am passionate about teaching people and small businesses how to make technology and social media work for them. Hence the tagline of my blog: at the intersection of technology and life
I was formerly employed by IBM as a Software Engineer doing software quality assurance testing. In layman’s terms, I was paid to break software and hand it to other people for them to fix.
However, that position has ended and I am now looking for a new position in the library science and information field, so if you have any leads in the New England or the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan areas, please feel free to drop me a line. I can be reached via: jatara (at) jatarabrown (dot) com and am more than happy to send you my resume upon request.
However, in the last few months or so, I’ve been giving serious thought about making a permanent career change. I did some soul searching and introspection and decided to go back to basics and do the things I love. What is it that I love?
Technology: I have a bachelors and masters degree in Computer Science. Although software is an interesting field of its own, I found that I enjoy other aspects of computer science better: networking, Web 2.0 technologies, computer security, and social networking.
Information: I love learning new things and love the fact that I can have tons of information at my fingertips just by logging onto the Internet. I am a huge Wikipedia fan and a trivia buff.
People:I enjoy meeting exciting, new, interesting people. Especially people that are doing fascinating things with their lives, whether it is simply living their purposes or doing big things in the world of business, academia, and technology. I use the Web to help me accomplish that.
I thought about things for a while and decided to settle on a career change to librarian. So, I’m in the process of applying to library schools for my MLIS and setting up an volunteer position at my local public library so I can get some work experience. I haven’t quite decided what I will specialize in, but so far, I’m leaning towards becoming a children’s librarian at a public library or work in a K-12 school library. I’ll be blogging more about technology, small businesses, Web 2.0 technologies, and social media, so be sure to return to my blog periodically for more posts.
